WHAT
IS THE MADRASA PROGRAM
The Madrasa Program is a course of study designed for the serious, devoted
student based on traditional methodologies of Islamic learning. Students
study subjects individually, on a one-on-one basis, reading from classical
works. Lessons are held in the masjid and begin with sarf (conjugation of
Arabic verbs and nouns) and Arabic grammar, and then progress though several
subjects with a final goal of tafsir of the Quran and explication of Hadith.
Lessons are
held daily at the Islamic Center of Chicago both before and after fajr
prayers and after isha. On any given day, students meet to present their
previous lesson, and, if mastered, the student is then given a new lesson.
Currently dozens of students around the Chicagoland area have experienced
rapid progress through this methodology.
Special emphasis
is also placed on the student's spiritual development and practice of
the knowledge acquired. Students are encouraged towards daily dhikr, self-reflection,
proper mannerisms, keeping of good company, modeling of the sunnah, and
regular attendance at the masjid.
WHO MAY
ATTEND
Any student with the desire to devote themselves with consistency may
attend. There are no pre-requisites.
WHAT ARE
THE FEES
There are no fees. Students are, however, expected to make a sincere effort
towards mastering their lessons and developing their connection with Allah.
DO I HAVE
TO ATTEND EVERYDAY
Because lessons are on a one-on-one basis, each student determines their
own schedule. Some students attend twice a day at both fajr and isha while
others, especially those coming from far-away suburbs attend once a week.
HOW LONG
IS EACH LESSON
Students lessons usually last 10-15 minutes. The student presents their
previous lesson during the first half of the session. During the second
half, the teacher presents the student with the new lesson.
WHAT IF
I ALREADY HAVE A BACKGROUND IN THE ISLAMIC SCIENCES
Each student is required to begin from the first subject (Arabic verbs
and grammar). If an individual has already mastered these sciences, they
may progress at a rapid pace to the next subject.
WHO TEACHES
Most of the time, Shaykh Husain Abdul Sattar teaches each student. However,
on occasion, students who have completed a subject are given the responsibility
to conduct the lessons for that particular subject.
WHAT IF
I LIVE OUTSIDE OF CHICAGO
The Madrasa Program provides on-line classrooms for the benefit of those
who cannot attend as well as those who need to review past lessons. These
"classrooms" are intended to supplement the learning of interested
individuals. The benefits of learning directly from a scholar are irreplaceable
and students are encouraged to seek sources of learning in their locality.
The on-line classrooms are only intended as a supplement to this process.
ARE THERE
FACILITIES FOR STUDENTS TO ATTEND FROM OTHER CITIES
Although the Madrasa Program does not currently have a building, living
arrangements can be arranged for those seeking to attend sessions. Interested
students should contact the Madrasa Program directly.
CAN I
ORGNANIZE A LEARNING SESSION IN MY AREA
On occasion, Shaykh Husain Abdul Sattar travels to different cities to
provide "short-courses" in certain subjects. You may contact
the Madrasa Program for more information about organizing or attending
such events.
